She inspired the rebel badge

The badge of the Rebel Alliance is one of the most iconic symbols of Star wars, and it all starts with Sabine Wren. Sabine is the most gifted artist fans have seen in the entire franchise, with a knack for graffiti that typically shows up in her armor. She often painted a phoenix-like symbol whose flaming wings clearly inspired the later Rebel design.

The Rebel Badge is a simplified version of the phoenix graffiti that Sabine left all over the planet Lothal. It will become the norm as the Alliance consolidates and will appear on helmets and uniforms throughout the movement.

A former imperial cadet

Sabine Wren and Wedge Antilles as Imperial Cadets in Star Wars Rebels.

Not only was Sabine Wren raised as a Mandalorian warrior, but she was also trained as an Imperial Cadet. Sabine honed many talents during this time, including her piloting and ammunition skills. Sabine applied her art to weapon design during this time, distinguishing herself as a cadet at the Imperial Academy established in Mandalore.

Sabine was one of the most promising cadets to come out of the academy, but, much like Han Solo during her brief time in the Empire, she discovered that the Empire was not the benevolent galactic power it was she thought she was.

She worked as a bounty hunter

After Sabine Wren left the Empire, she became a bounty hunter. She teamed up with Ketsu Onyo, a Star wars bounty hunter who deserves more attention. The two former cadets worked together for a while, but then things took a dark turn. Ketsu turned on Sabine and left her for dead before joining the Black Sun criminal syndicate.

Sabine didn’t go into the Bounty Hunter Guild on her own, but instead became part of the crew of the Ghost. This ultimately led her to become one of the founding members of the nascent rebellion.

A member of the Troglodyte clan

Sabine’s importance in the rebellion is hard to overstate, but she is even more important within Mandalore’s complex power structures. She is a member of the Wren clan, with strong ties to House Vizsla, a powerful Mandalorian clan whose members include Pre Vizsla, the leader of the Death Watch in some of the best episodes of the series. Clone wars.

Sabine’s mother is Ursa Wren, who during the Empire sided with the imperial collaborators, the Saxon Clan. With Sabine’s help, the Wren clan turned to the Saxon and the Empire to reclaim their world.

Played a role in Wedge Antillies joining the rebellion

Sabine Wren used her experience as an Imperial Cadet on a special mission that put her in touch with another prominent figure in the rebellion – Wedge Antilles. Wedge was not an X-Wing pilot at the time, but an Imperial cadet training to be a pilot.

While Sabine was undercover as a pilot at Skystrike Academy, she acknowledged and encouraged Wedge’s doubts about the Empire. This ultimately led him to defect with his friend Hobbie. Both became heroes of the Rebellion.

She brandished the black saber

Sabine Star Wars Rebels Darksaber

When Sabine went to Dathomir with the Ghost crew, she discovered the Darksaber, the traditional weapon of the ruler of Mandalore and one of the most iconic weapons of Star wars. She trained with the weapon with Jedi Kanan Jarrus, although she initially refused, doubting herself.

Kanan and her compatriot Mandalore Fenn Rau helped convince her to use it, hoping that she would become the leader Mandalore needed. Sabine would learn to use the sword, the weapon that Pre Vizsla once used against Obi-Wan Kenobi and Moff Gideon would use against Din Djarin.

She participated in the Mandalorian Civil War

Sabine and Gar Saxon fight for the black saber

Sabine helped expose the Empire’s evil in Mandalore to her own family. In the process, she brought them into direct conflict with their apparent allies, the Saxon clan. When Gar Saxon challenged Sabine for the Dark Saber, she ultimately had to fight him with Kanan Jarrus’ lightsaber.

Sabine succeeded in killing Gar Saxon and claiming the Black Saber in battle, securing her ownership and the leadership of all the Mandalorian people, as was the tradition on their planet.

She gave the black saber to Bo-Katan

In an approach that would have profound implications for the events of The Mandalorian many years later, Sabine wasted the opportunity to become the ruler of Mandalore. She voluntarily gave the black saber to Bo-Katan Kryze, Duchess Satine’s sister, who then took over.

This begs the question of why Bo-Katan could not simply accept Din Djarin’s weapon decades later. It’s also unclear how Bo-Katan lost him to Moff Gideon. One thing is certain; Sabine did not see the end of the black saber.

She created a terrible super-weapon

One of the most heartbreaking moments of Star Wars: Rebels It’s when Sabine realizes that one of her inventions has been turned into a terrible weapon. While training as an Imperial Cadet, Sabine applied her engineering and ammunition skills to develop an arc pulse generator, nicknamed “The Duchess”. This weapon was later used against Mandalore.

Using her own invention to subjugate the Mandalorians was too much for Sabine, who bears enormous guilt for the downfall of her proud people to the benefit of the Empire. The fall of Mandalore would have lasting impacts for decades.

She joined Ahsoka to find Ezra Bridger

Star Wars Rebels World Between Worlds Ezra Ahsoka

At the end of Star Wars: Rebels, the series moves forward a few years in time, and fans see an older, wiser Sabine preparing to leave with Ahsoka Tano to find Ezra Bridger. This clearly indicated the possible round of Ahsoka live action and Ahsoka’s interest in Grand Admiral Thrawn’s whereabouts in The Mandalorian.

Sabine’s role in the streaming series will likely be related to finding Ezra and Thrawn, but given her deep connection to Mandalore and the Darksaber, it’s unlikely to end there. It seems likely that she will appear in other related series as well.
