Amazon to release co-op title for new developer Glowmade
Amazon Games is expanding its publishing branch by announcing yesterday that it has partnered with independent studio Glowmade, which creates an original IP-based game.
Glowmade was founded in Guildford, England in 2015 and employs veterans of several successful franchises, including its three founders, who met while working together at developer Fable Lionhead Studios. Its game is described as “a creative online cooperative experience” and the company itself is focused on “developing inspiring games that enable joyful creativity”.
In addition to New World, which launches next week, Amazon now has at least three other games under its umbrella: Smilegate’s title of Glowmade and Lost Ark, for which the company will serve as publisher, and an unannounced project that former Daybreak CEO John Smedley has headed to the top. He also launched a new studio in Montreal in March, run by former Ubisoft developer Alexandre Parizeau.
However, all hopes rest on New World and its alleged budget of nearly half a billion dollars. If that doesn’t succeed, and succeeds big, it wouldn’t be surprising to see at least one of these unannounced internal projects go down the drain and for Amazon to become solely a distributor, especially if Lost Ark exceeds expectations.
