Do you like Esports MMOs?
I am a huge fan of the Fighting Games Community (FGC). I always say, out of the myriad of events and shows that I am lucky and fortunate enough to cover in this work, the Evolution Championship Series, or EVO as it’s called, is my favorite time of the year. year. Think about the excitement of Tom and Donna on Treat Yo Self Day.
I love esports, especially FGC. Other types of esports are also entertaining. I can stay glued to one Magic: the Gathering great price for a relentless weekend, or keep an eye out League The worlds when they present themselves. However, one area of esports that really hasn’t caught my attention – or really caught my attention for that matter – revolves around MMOs.
Many MMOs have competitive game modes designed for esports tournaments. World of warcraft Mythic Dungeon International immediately comes to mind, but other MMOs have competitive leagues built around their PvP arena, like Guild Wars 2 and Final Fantasy XIV. from amazon New world showed the potential of his War and Outpost Rush modes during his July alpha when he hosted his Battle for streamer extravaganza New world Event. EVE online is even returning to the game, relaunching its Alliance Tournament series. There is clearly an appeal to competitive play, even in games more known for their grind and raid aspects.
It’s a shame too. I really want to follow these events. I want to be carried away by the excitement of seeing a Warcraft the team comes back from the brink of defeat and wins it all, or follows when a DAY BEFORE The capsuler makes an insane PvP game that seals his team’s victory. I remember when Final Fantasy XIV had their last Fan Festival here in Las Vegas – really tried to keep up with the PvP tournament that was going on on the last day. It was fun, but I didn’t want to Following.
Every time I leave EVO, I count the days until the next one.
For me, I think the fundamental disconnect is just the fact that in these games PvP is not my focus. I am not playing Wow in arena PvP. Even in DAY BEFORE, which is PvP every time you undock, I don’t see it as a game I want to PvP in.
However, every time I start Street Fighter V Where League of Legends, I want to be the best. I want to dominate. PvP is intrinsic to its design, so that’s what I associate with it.
So I’ll pass the question to you. Do you like the different MMO Esports leagues, and if so why? If you don’t, why not?
