End of Dragons offers first glimpse of Shing Jea Island
Guild Wars 2 is preparing for the launch of its third expansion pack, End of the dragons, at the start of the new year. The last preview of the expansion pack content was for Shing Jea Island, a new area for players to explore on the eastern continent of Cantha – and which players in the prequel Factions expansion could remember.
Shing Jea Island first appeared in Guild Wars: Factions in 2006, where it served as the starting area for new characters starting with the expansion. Fifteen years later Guild Wars 2: The End of the Dragons brings players back to Cantha, and players can finally see what happened halfway around the world in the 250 years that have passed in Tyria between Game 1 and Game 2.
As has happened in other places in Tyria, the island of Shing Jea has changed, but not so much to be unrecognizable to fans of the First Game. Memorable places like Zen Daijun and the Monastery are making a comeback, along with several other landmarks and areas both old and new. As you would expect from Guild Wars 2, the environments are beautiful and bright despite the aging graphics of the aging game, and the soundtrack is tranquil and harmonic.
Guild Wars 2: The End of the Dragons has revealed a lot of content lately. In addition to the highly anticipated return in the beloved Cantha, players will have access to new features including fishing, a new two-way turtle mount, and nine new Elite Specializations – one for each of Guild Wars 2’s professions. The final three Specializations will be revealed in the coming weeks ahead of the third event on October 26, and more features and locations to find in the Expansion Pack are coming soon.
Since the release of its first two expansions and Living World content, all of which had revisited beloved locations from the original game, longtime fans of the Guild Wars 2 hoped for a return to Cantha. Shing Jea Island is the first area Guild Wars 2: The End of the Dragons gave an in-depth review which is a fitting choice considering that many players have started their journey there. Soon, players will discover how other familiar places have evolved over the centuries.
With so many other MMORPGs in the limelight, it’s no surprise that many gamers have forgotten that Guild Wars 2 was still around, especially in light of the controversies surrounding the titan MMO World of warcraft, or the recent meteoric rise of Final Fantasy 14. However, Guild Wars 2 is still alive and well, with over 500,000 active players every day – almost the same as Amazon New world. With an expansion around the corner, this number is set to increase even more.
Guild Wars 2 is available now on PC, with End of the dragons released in February 2022.
