Guild Wars 2 developers are aware of the crash issue in fractals and strikes
Guild Wars 2 received a new update on August 17, bringing with it the first beta event for the End of Dragons Elite Specialization.
During the event, players will be able to see three new beta character slots, which will allow them to create and play a fully equipped level 80 beta character from any race over the weekend.
Those who want to see all of the new things in the patch can head here for the full patch notes on the official community forums.
That said, it’s not all pinks and moonlight with the new patch. Many Guild Wars 2 players have taken to social platforms like Reddit to report that the game crashes after the last update.
I think it has to do with special action skills. We crashed in Fraenir at the CC bar, then we stopped using them all together and everything went well. Looks like this is also happening in Arkk, Drakkar, and Raven Storm, all locations that use special action keys. (Source)
I did some fractal CMs after today’s patch and the game just crashed for the 5 of us as we were fighting Arkk in 99CM. No add-ons have been installed. Needless to say we didn’t try again as we would have had to do Skorvald and Artsa again. (Source)
As of today’s patch, every time I exit the game and then return to it, I hear the game but cannot access anything (the client, web browser, discord, etc. ) and I have to force a restart. The pilots are all up to date. This happens whether I am in beta or not. Anyone else have this problem? (Source)
Reports suggest that the game only crashes in certain situations. This rules out the possibility that it is a problem with the hardware or the drivers.
Some people even confirmed that the game crashed for other players on the team at the same time during the fight. Therefore, it is clear that a bug in the recent update is to blame.
Thankfully, the Guild Wars 2 team – via the official Twitter account – have confirmed that they are indeed aware of the Fractal and Strike crash issue.
In addition to acknowledging the issue, the team also revealed that players can temporarily fix it by enabling “Disable skill highlighting” in the Combat / Movement section of General Options.
The team also confirmed that they have disabled the ability to interact with certain NPCs in guild halls while they are fixing an issue. However, we don’t know if this has anything to do with the game crashing.

Unfortunately, there is no ETA to solve the problem. That said, we’ll be releasing an update if and when there are further developments regarding the Guild Wars 2 crash issue in Fractals and Strikes.
