Celeste and Towerfall Studio announce new action game in the ‘world of seamless pixel art’
Earthblade is an exploration action game set in a “ transparent pixel art world, ” and is in development by Extremely OK Games, the studio responsible for Celeste and Towerfall. From the teaser below, it appears to be set in a lush fantasy world, but that’s about all we can say at this point, as it is an ‘atmospheric reveal’. , according to the developers.
The Other Things We Know: Music is by Lena Raine, the acclaimed soundtrack songwriter who worked on Celeste, and who contributed to Minecraft and Guild Wars 2 (in addition to the release his own albums). This is also the fourth game prototype the studio has worked on following the success of Celeste, following a few unsuccessful ideas in the form of EXOK1-3 prototypes.
“The EXOK1–3 prototypes taught us a lot, but in the end we ventured too far out of our comfort zone for them to really finish,” writes director Maddy Thorson. “It took a while, but we feel like we’ve found the right compromise between the two with Earthblade.”
Don’t expect regular and bountiful updates on Earthblade just yet, though: Thorson writes in the same blog post that it “will probably take some time” before we get more information on the project. . “We debated how to talk about this game during development,” the article read. “When creating Celeste, we basically tweeted anything interesting that we were working on day to day when we were in the mood to share. But an air of mystery lends itself particularly well to this project, so we’ve chosen to save everything for one big reveal that will hopefully blow you up.
No word on the date of this reveal, but in the meantime, enjoy the art of the teaser (click ‘see more’ to expand):
