In an update article on their official siteMaddy Thorson of Extremely Ok Games explained that they saw this teaser as an “atmospheric reveal” because they didn’t want to reveal too much about the game.
“An air of mystery lends itself particularly well to this project, so we’ve chosen to put everything aside for a big reveal that will hopefully blow your mind,” she wrote.
While the studio’s previous game development process Celestial implied that the studio was sharing “something interesting that we were working on day to day”, Earthblade was the result of a long process of refinement.
“It took us 4 prototypes to find Earthblade, and it has now been over 3 years since Celeste’s initial release, ”continued Thorson.
There are no firm plans for a release date at this time, with Thorson adding, “The truth is we don’t know how long it will take, just that it will take as long as it takes (and it will take a lot of time ). “
Earlier this year, Extremely Ok Games created a short sequel to Celestial in the Pico-8 engine, called Celeste 2: Lani Trek. Created in three days, the sequel can be played in a browser or downloaded from Itch.io.
The original team were involved in the production, involving Maddy Thorson and Lena Raine alongside Noel Berry.
Thorson confirmed last year that Celeste’s protagonist Madeline is transgender, which the creator discovered during the development process.
In one Way Publish, she wrote: “During the Farewell DLC development, I started to get a hunch. After development, I now know that we both are.
