‘The Acolyte’ is the High Republic’s first ‘Star Wars’ series
Many comics and novels were set during the so-called “High Republic” era. star warsmore than a century before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace when, supposedly, things were great for the Jedi and the Sith were practically non-existent. But to date, these events have only been hinted at on screen. If you’re not the type star wars fan who obsessed over auxiliary literature, you hardly knew the High Republic.
This will change with the next star wars series The Acolyte from Russian doll co-creator Leslye Headland. The show, which is currently in development at Lucasfilm, will be the first set of this High Republic era. According to Headland in an interview with Vanity Fair, the series is primarily a mystery where the key questions asked are: “Are things what they seem? Are things as good as everyone says? This is the big question for any society that experiences these great boom periods.
The show is set around 100 years before The Phantom Menace where Headland will seek to explain how the star wars galaxy got to the point in this movie where an ambitious villain could destroy the entire Republic.
How did we get to where a Sith Lord can infiltrate the Senate and no Jedi find out? What went wrong? What are the scenarios that have led us to this moment? So that’s what I would say. That’s how I would describe it to my friends, especially my non-Star Wars friends.
The show will “apparently explore Star Wars from the perspective of the villains.” And because it takes place in this time when the villains practically do not exist, they become “the outsiders” of the story. Are you ready to encourage the Sith?
It sounds like an intriguing concept. The Acolyte doesn’t have a confirmed release date — it doesn’t even have an announced cast yet — but it will premiere on Disney+ in the future.
