WoW players can’t overcome Eternity’s End’s shocking similarities to Destiny 2
World of Warcraft expansion 9.2 Eternity’s End is set to introduce the fantasy land of Zereth Mortis, but some fans believe there is a strange resemblance between the new area and another MMO title: Destiny 2.
Blizzard Entertainment has kicked off the grand finale of WoW’s latest major expansion, Shadowlands, with the reveal of the game’s 9.2 content patch, titled Eternity’s End.
With the scene set for a climate showdown with the Jailer, Shadowlands’ biggest villain, Update 9.2 appears to be action-packed – but, despite the loaded reveal, fans were quick to criticize the next game update, calling it a “joke”. “
While the reveal fell flat for most players, including popular World of Warcraft streamer Asmongold, fans also took issue with the artistic direction of Eternity’s End, with some calling what they saw as visual similarities between the new WoW and Destiny 2 content.
WoW players shocked by comparisons to Destiny 2
After the big reveal, comparisons between the art direction of Eternity’s End and that of Bungie’s self-labeled “action MMO” began to spread on social media.
Several posts appeared on the game’s subreddit, sharing visual comparisons between the art of Eternity’s End reveal and images from Destiny 2, highlighting what fans seemed to see as eerily similar visuals.
“[Update] 9.2 definitely gives me huge Destiny vibes, ”one comment read, before continuing,“ Vault of Glass is a big deal that comes to mind for the overall theme.
“I don’t even play Destiny and 9.2 reminded me of that,” replied a second player.
I think we’ve played this wow game before
In a similar post, more and more players seemed to be poking fun at Blizzard over their choice of visuals for the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion. “Hey, can I copy your homework?” Sure, but don’t make it obvious, ”one player teased.
While many fans agreed with the comparisons, others backed down. “I understand that Zereth Mortis is not as supernatural as it could be, but you start to seem like you’re complaining about anything,” one comment read, berating parallels between WoW and Destiny.
Others have shared their own comparisons, calling titles like Darksiders and Guild Wars 2 to look closer to what’s on display in Eternity’s End. Even some Destiny 2 fans found the posts exaggerated: “As a player of D2 and WoW, while I find these comparisons funny, they are not convincing.”
The World of Warcraft player base seems to be quite divided over these perceived similarities, and this seems like another stumble for Eternity’s End in the eyes of the WoW community even before the expansion launches.
