Xbox Game Pass hits 25 million subscribers
Xbox Game Pass has reached 25 million subscribers, Microsoft has confirmed via Xbox thread Tuesday. Previously, the service hit a benchmark of 18 million subscribers in January 2021. That’s an increase of seven million subscribers a year later.
News of this new milestone accompanied the announcement that Microsoft had acquired Activision-Blizzard, a game publisher known for titles like Call of Duty and World of Warcraft. Microsoft is spending nearly $70 billion in cash to complete the purchase, which is expected to be settled and finalized before June 2023. Microsoft plans to add games from Activision-Blizzard’s catalog to Xbox Game Pass once the deal is finalized .
Microsoft is aggressively expanding in order to increase its gaming content and attract more Xbox Game Pass subscribers, previously acquiring Zenimax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, for $7.5 billion in September 2020. The deal closed in March 2021 and sees several Xbox console exclusive games in development, including Starfield from Bethesda Game Studios and Redfall from Arkane Austin.
